Nino Camardo, born in Pisticci in the province of Matera on 24 February 1949. Born as a self-taught painter, from the early seventies he painted subjects of landscapes far from reality which speak with the artistic language of naïve art, from tales of love stories to poetry with primitive expression. The first personal exhibition in Massa in 1971 in the Galleria Città di Massa, to then participate in the Centro Studi di Roma Prize, the Arte nel Mondo Prize, and the personal exhibition at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in 1975, curated by the art critic Dino Villani. He exhibited abroad in France and England, in 1975 in Lyon at the Maifs exhibition of the Lyon Univeritès and in 1976 in London at the Institute Foyles Art. In 1980 his work was published in Eco’s pocket monographs of modern art, edited by the critic Renzo Margonari. He exhibited his works in the 2014 collective exhibition in Castiglione del Lago, and in the 2017 personal exhibitions at Castello Malaspina in Massa and in Massa Carrara at Villa la Rinchiostra in 2019 with an anthological exhibition. The Italian painters and writers Salvatore Fiume, Giuseppe Migneco, Mario Monteverdi, Roberto Gervaso, and Romano Battaglia write about the primitive work of Nino Camardo.
