Senator Grace Poe: Top 25 GLOBAL Women of Influence 2024 WRW Business.

As a woman, mother, wife and Senator of the Republic of the Philippines, Sen. Grace Poe has always fought for the rights and welfare of women and children in the country.

Among her achievements was the enactment of the ‘Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act’ (R.A. No. 11148). Today, the law provides a spectrum of nutrition and health interventions to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and their children during the first 1,000 days of life.  Poe also co-authored the ‘Safe Spaces Act’ (R.A. No. 11313), which aims to protect every individual from sexual harassment in private as well as public spaces, whether online or offline. In recognizing that the rights of women and children are strongly intertwined, Poe also authored several legislations aimed at protecting the rights of children and mothers including the ‘Expanded Anti-Trafficking Act’ (R.A. No. 11862), ‘Foundling Recognition and Protection Act’ (R.A. No. 11767), ‘Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials’ (R.A. No. 11930), ‘Domestic Administrative Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act’ (R.A. No. 11642), ‘Special Protection of Children in Situations of Armed Conflict Act’ (R.A. No. 11188), and ‘Children’s Emergency Relief and Protection Act’ (R.A. No. 10821).

She is a formidable advocate of transparency in governance, efficient delivery of public services, and the protection of the rights of mothers, children, commuters and consumers. In her first term as senator, she immediately set to work creating meaningful legislation, more than 50 of which are now fully enacted laws.

Among these are the laws providing for free lunch program for public school children; for maternal and child care for the first 1000 days of life of a child; for free text alerts in times of disaster; for extended validity of driver’s license and passports; and making our streets, public spaces, and workplaces safer by prohibiting all forms of sexual harassment; to name a few. Now on her second term in office, Senator Poe continues to serve the Filipino people especially our most marginalized and disenfranchised sectors.
