Axel Nocom: Young Karting Prodigy

on

At just 13 years old, Axel Nocom is already making waves in the world of motorsports, proving that age is just a number when talent and determination are at the wheel. Born in January 2012 and hailing from the Philippines, Axel began his karting journey at the tender age of five, debuting in the Bambino category back in 2017. Fast forward to today, he competes in the highly competitive Junior 2-Stroke 125cc category (ages 12–14), standing as the most seasoned young karter in the country. Axel’s impressive resume includes representing the Philippines on the global stage at the prestigious FIA Motorsport Games, widely regarded as the “Olympics of motorsports.” Domestically, he has been a near-unbeatable force—clinching victories in nearly every championship he’s entered, with only one title slipping away due to missed races.

But Axel’s ambitions stretch far beyond the Philippine racing circuits. Determined to prove that Filipino drivers belong on the world stage, he has taken his skills abroad—competing in karting capitals across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. His international campaign has been marked by several podium finishes, serving not just as personal victories, but as a message to aspiring racers back home: you can do this too. Back in the Philippines, Axel is already thinking beyond the track. He recently helped form a racing team aimed at nurturing the next generation of drivers, making motorsports more accessible and sustainable for newcomers.

Remarkably, Axel’s dream isn’t to become a Formula 1 driver. Instead, he envisions something far greater: inspiring a movement. He hopes to ignite a new era in Filipino motorsports—one where young drivers have the opportunities, training, and support needed to compete internationally. Fully aware that the Philippines currently lags behind European racing standards by as much as two decades, Axel knows it will take a collective effort, with dozens of competitive Filipino racers, to bridge the gap. With grit beyond his years and a vision bigger than himself, Axel isn’t just racing for trophies, he’s racing for change.
